Tony Della-Porta was commissioned to lead the review panel on this SARS infection and biosafety issues related to it.

In particular, the Panel reviewed:

• standard microbiological practices
• safety equipment
• laboratory facilities
• training in biological safety
• other special practices used

The Panel was then able to recommend changes to address biosafety issues, improve practices and structural design of the laboratories.

The Panel recommended approaches to the adoption of National Standards, Audit and Accreditation for biological safety.
